RIVERFRONT’S HERITAGE:
The building is a three-story, all masonry structure with a sawtooth roof that was built in 1930 by American Can for making tin cans. American Can operated in the building until it was sold to Pillsbury in 1963. From then until 1991, Pillsbury made various food product lines, such as instant breakfasts, gravy mixes and cake mixes.
AQUIRED BY ICON:
When Pillsbury made the announcement to close their Terre Haute location, the building would sit empty for almost 5 years. ICON Transportation bought the building in 1995 and used it as as storage location for CDs and Videocassettes until the early 2000s when it ceased operations. Indiana State University bought the property in 2009, where it sat vacant waiting for a redevelopment or demolition.
RIVERFRONT LOFTS:
In 2015 Core Redevelopment purchased the 190,000 square-foot ICON building, and transformed the building into 168 market-rate residential apartments. Renovation was completed in 2018.
